Vintage Mountain Bike Ride
September 15, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am
Hey gang, it’s time to dig out that old mountain bike, air up the tires and lube the chain. We’re going for a fun trail ride in Los Robles!
This is an easy paced ride intended to be fun for socializing and reminiscing about cantilever brakes, rigid frames, and 26″ tires. The older the better!
Proposed Route: Start at JRA Bikes & Brew (215 Thousand Oaks, Blvd, 1000 Oaks, CA).
We’ll ride West on Thousand Oaks Blvd then south on Moorpark Rd to the trailhead. (about 10 minutes).
We’ll do a lap on Mr Toad’s Wild Ride. Climb Las Padres Trail (this starts flat and finishes with a short, steep climb). Across East Los Robles Fireroad to Lily Tomlin Trail (easy climb to flat terrain).
After we have fun descending Lily Tomlin Trail, we can ride further out on West Los Robles fireroad (flat riding). When the group is ready, we’ll head back for one more lap on Toad’s and then back to the shop for refreshments.
Free smoothies to the following riders:
1. Oldest mountain bike
2. Most unique/exotic/rare frame
3. Best dressed- get those old jerseys out!
These bikes must be in good working order and safe to ride. You must also wear a bike helmet. Make sure you perform a thorough safety inspection and run through the gears and brakes to be sure it’s still in good working condition. Don’t forget to check the tires and innertubes. They have a tendency to dry rot and crack over time. Not sure if it’ll handle the ride? Bring it in to the shop well in advance so we can breath some life back into the beauty.
*You must always come prepared with a bike in good working condition, water, a helmet, as well as any protective gear you deem necessary. It’s a good idea to bring trail food if you haven’t eaten in the last few hours. You should bring an extra innertube in case of a flat.
We always host “no drop” rides. This means we won’t leave anyone behind. Bicycling has its inherent risks, including serious injury or death. Your participation is an acknowledgment of those risks and an assumption of liability.
